BURLINGTON, Mass., Feb. 17 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Cerence Inc. (NASDAQ: CRNC), AI for a world in motion, today announced that it has enhanced its cloud services capabilities in Korea with new interoperability with KT Genie’s GiGA, the company voice-activated virtual assistant. Leveraging Cerence’s Cognitive Arbiter, Mercedes-Benz Korea has signed on as the first automaker to bring this built-in capability to drivers of select models including Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Mercedes-Benz EQS, Mercedes-Benz E-Class , Mercedes-Benz EQA, and more in Korea via its Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), intuitive infotainment and virtual assistant system.

KT, Korea’s largest telecom operator and digital platform company, launched GiGA Genie in 2017 as an AI-powered TV set-top box and integrated virtual assistant. Today, GiGA Genie offers its three million users voice access to a wide variety of popular KT content and services, including music, videos, games, shopping, general knowledge, and more. To further expand user access to GiGA Genie, Cerence and KT have partnered to bring the intelligent capabilities of GiGA Genie directly into Cerence-powered car assistants through Cerence Cognitive Arbitrator. In the case of MBUX, drivers can, for example, say: “Hey Mercedes, how many did Parasite gross at the box office? or “Hey Mercedes, what am I having dinner tonight?” MBUX intuitively knows where to route the request and how to best perform the action the driver wants, providing a streamlined and effortless user experience.

“GiGA Genie has been a driving force behind the growing popularity of voice assistants in Korea,” said Kangrim Choi, SVP and Head of AI Mobility Business Unit, KT. “We are proud to partner with Cerence to bring GiGA Genie into an entirely new environment in an integrated, seamless offering that makes it easier for drivers to access content, services and assistant features on the go.”

“Consumers around the world have an ever-expanding digital life spanning a variety of assistants and services. As their ecosystems become more complex, interoperability is key, especially in the car,” said Stefan Ortmanns, Cerence CEO “By leveraging our Cerence Cognitive Arbiter to make GiGA Genie accessible through the car assistant, KT has firmly established its commitment to a simple and intuitive user experience. We are excited to team up with KT and support our long-time partner, Mercedes-Benz, which brings this important capability to drivers of select Mercedes-Benz models in Korea.”

Cerence Cognitive Arbitrator enables automakers to quickly and easily create in-vehicle voice systems that provide coexistence between the wide variety of virtual assistants, third-party services and content – including KT’s GiGA Genie – available in the global digital ecosystem of today. Through a single interface, Cerence Cognitive Arbitrator removes the complexity of whether the Cerence-powered or GiGA Genie-powered assistant should perform a given task, providing drivers with flexibility and enabling automakers to retain brand experience and vehicle ownership. data. Cerence Cognitive Arbitrator serves as a voice router, listening, understanding, and routing user requests to best accomplish the task, without needing to specify which assistant should receive and process the request.
