An eco-friendly platform has been nominated for the Kildare Digital Champion Awards, just before its first birthday on November.

Created by entrepreneur Lorna Anne Tierney, The earthy market (TEM) is an online platform offering an ever-growing catalog of sustainable and ethical businesses for Kildare residents to browse and buy.

Among their characteristics, the stores include zero waste shops unpacked and Refillzboth based in Kildare.

Lorna said the awards ceremony will take place at MERITS in Naas, on the same date as TEM’s first anniversary.

She also revealed that, thanks to the platform, over 700 native Irish trees will be planted over the next week, to celebrate TEM hitting the 700 mark on The Tree Tally.

CONTEXT

TEM, which operates on a subscription service, also offers listings for nonprofit environmental groups and organizations.

Explaining how it works, Lorna said: “TEM member listings outline essential information in a simple and accessible way, including direct links to member websites and social platforms.

“All listings are entered into Earthy Map so that members with physical business locations are easy for users to find using Google Maps geolocation features.

She continued, “TEM is more than just a directory, it’s a resource hub offering many additional Earthy services designed to help keep users coming back for more and maximize member visibility.

“We are driven to connect our national community while giving back directly to nature.”

Lorna also said that TEM is now available as an app: the EARTHY Android app is available as a free download for all users via Google Play.

“With small businesses hurting and the sad news of many closures due to rising operating costs, now more than ever we need to come together to support and save local small businesses,” she added.

Additionally, Lorna revealed that later this year, TEM will soon be launching a series of Christmas guides to introduce some of their members and the “Conscious Christmas” items they will be offering this year.
