Jokowi Encourages Papuan MSMEs to Join Digital Economy Platform

I am really surprised to see that in Papua, the products of SMEs are exceptional

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has encouraged Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Papua to join the Digital Economy Platform with the aim of expanding their markets to wider consumers.

Jokowi said he witnessed several MSMEs with promising potential before attending the Business Identification Number (BIN) ceremony for individual Micro and Small Enterprises (SMEs) at Toware Sports Hall in the district of Jayapura, Wednesday.

“I am happy to see products. The packaging is quite good, the product is good too. I am really surprised to see that in Papua, the products of SMEs are exceptional,” he noted during his speech at an event broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.

By using digital platforms, Papuan MSME owners will be able to expand their market to other islands and even overseas, he said.

“I saw Papuan coffee, pineapple juice, shredded tuna and other things. Please promote them on the digital platform. Take advantage of it to reach a wider market and even overseas,” said he added.

Apart from the e-commerce platform, the President also suggested Papuan MSMEs to start using social media to promote their products.

“You can try selling on Facebook or Instagram. However, e-commerce platforms are also good. I think the products will sell well,” Jokowi said.

At the event, the Head of State distributed the NIB to at least 2,700 individual SME beneficiaries.

According to a report by the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, only 20,000 business players have, so far, registered for the Single Online Submission (OSS) system in Papua .

Lahadalia said his camp aims to increase the number to at least 200,000 commercial actors registered with the OSS.

Besides Minister Lahadalia, the President was also accompanied by Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki, Public Enterprises (SOE) Erick Thohir and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
