Digital identity management in 2022: challenges and issues

As digital ID instruments evolve into a popular concept for fintech, social media, and esports, a number of critical data security and integrity issues have become apparent.

These issues have been amplified by the growing popularity of biometric technologies and remote working in 2020-2022. Meanwhile, according to UN estimates, only 71% of countries globally have developed adequate law enforcement frameworks for data protection and privacy.

Meanwhile, some developed countries (US, EU, New Zealand, Australia, etc.) have started using digital IDs as convenient alternatives to traditional IDs. Estonia and the UK have adopted blockchain technologies for state-backed digital ID initiatives.

Even outside state programs, digital ID modules like Apple ID or Google accounts are used here and there.

However, these solutions lack security and privacy protection mechanisms. Moving digital identity management to blockchain-based platforms will make them resistant to attack and easy to access.

That is why Meta Tag, a next-gen identity management startup, is launching its multi-blockchain platform to create ID “badges” as non-fungible tokens. The procedure is quite simple and beginner-friendly: the user simply needs to connect their Metamask (or another EVM-compatible wallet), enter the username, authorize the minting and get their name as a digital token on OpenSea, the largest NFT Market.

These NFTs can be used in esports as “gamertags” or on social media as “symbolic nicknames”. In the Web3 segment, these solutions can be used in GameFi, SocialFi and Metaverse products.

Since its first releases in Q1 2022, MetaTag solutions are multi-chain: usernames created as NFTs are available on Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL), two leading smart contract platforms. Upcoming developments will enable seamless integration of MetaTag’s NFTs into top-tier blockchain games like Axie Infinity, Splinterlands, CryptoKitties, and more.

Then, MetaTag holders will get priority whitelisting for various gaming ecosystems, including immediately after launch. Additionally, a number of limited benefits will be available to MetaTag customers as its range of partnerships expands.
