How to make a post shareable on Facebook

When you share a post on Facebook, there are several options for audience visibility settings, including:

  • Audience: “Anyone on or off Facebook.”

  • Friends: “Your friends on Facebook.”

  • Friends except: “Do not show certain friends.”

  • Specific friends: “Show only certain friends.”

  • Just me

  • Custom: “Include and exclude friends and lists”.

To make a post shareable, select the three horizontal dots at the top right of the post. In the drop-down menu, click “Edit Audience”. From there, you can choose who can see your post, which also dictates its shareability.

The option you choose for audience visibility will impact who can share and how your content will be delivered. If you select “Public”, anyone on or off Facebook can see your post, making it the most visible and shareable option. In this case, if one of your friends shares your message, their friends and followers will also be able to see it.

If you choose one of the other options, your post won’t be as visible to all audiences. Your content can still be shared; however, it may not show in its entirety on other users’ feeds.

Once you’ve selected the “Audience” option, click “Done” to save the new audience visibility setting.

Why can’t I share someone’s post?

If you’re trying to share another account’s post and it doesn’t seem to work, the other user may have turned off their sharing settings.

If a post is not set to the “Public” audience visibility option, it will not be seen by all users of the platform. So if you can’t share someone’s post, chances are they’ve changed the privacy setting on their end.
